  4. Advanced Publishing Techniques Using Your Own Website

As you look around the internet at other podcasts you may see that other podcasters may utilize graphic buttons that say things like Subscribe, or RSS, XML, or Podcast. A search on Google will reveal many free graphics available on the internet for your uses. If you want to get a little fancier with how you notify subscribers about your feed, you can link your Feed URL behind the graphic. You can also link your audio file (podcast) behind a graphic as well in the same manner with a suitable graphic. If you are familiar with publishing webpages you can do this yourself. If someone else handles this task for your website, such as your Webmaster or tech person, contact them now and see the next step.

Linking your podcast feed or podcast behind a graphic requires knowing a little computer code to create what is known as a Hyperlink that you must enter in your HTML editor when you create your page. Here is an example of what it would look like:

<A HREF ="http://www.ourtownsstories.com/podcasts.xml" >Subscribe to Podcast<IMG src="podcastlogo.gif"></A>.

Note: You must upload the graphic to your webhost as well, in order for this link to work properly. Also, this is an example only. The name of your website and graphic and its location may differ.
