2. Stereo and Mono Files
Sound files can be stereo, with a right channel and a left channel, or they can be mono, with just one channel.

A mono file's waveform:
Edit operations such as cut, copy, and paste affect both channels on a stereo file. Effects such as EQ, Bass Boost, and Echo, found in the Effects menu, can be added to either one or both channels. Select Preferences from the dialog box.
Convert a stereo file to mono or a mono file to stereo by clicking Edit->Change Format.
Note: Converting stereo to mono mixes both channels together into one wave. Once this is done, and the converted file has been saved or another operation has been performed, channel separation cannot be restored by using Edit->Undo or converting the file back to a stereo file.
Always save a separate copy of the original file.
